The curved perimeter requires more open floor space per seat than a rectangular table of the same capacity because no side runs flush against a wall. Powder-coated aluminum outdoor dining tables are rust-free, lightweight, and maintain their finish across years of outdoor exposure without painting or sealing. Cast aluminum tops provide a more solid, substantial feel and are often used in traditional and transitional patio dining designs with ornate edge profiles. Tubular aluminum tables are lighter, suit contemporary aesthetics, and are the best choice for locations where the table needs to be moved seasonally or stored during winter months. Aluminum is the optimal material for coastal and high-humidity climates where any iron or steel content would risk corrosion.

Wicker and Resin Tabletops

Resin wicker outdoor dining tables combine a woven wicker surface or apron with a tabletop in tempered glass, aluminum, or resin. The wicker component wraps an aluminum frame, making the structure weather-resistant, while the tabletop material determines the dining surface character. Tempered glass tops provide a clean, flat surface that is easy to wipe down after meals and allows the wicker base to remain visible. Resin or aluminum tops are more impact-resistant and better suited to households with children.

Concrete and Stone Outdoor Dining Tables

A concrete outdoor dining table is one of the most permanent and durable options in this category: the material is extremely heavy, weather-resistant, and develops a natural patina over time that many buyers find appealing. Concrete tables are best suited to permanent patio installations where the table will not need to be moved seasonally. Polished concrete surfaces require sealing to prevent staining from food and drink; sealed concrete tables are low maintenance beyond the initial surface protection.

Dining for 4 people: A round table 36" to 48" in diameter or a rectangular table at least 60" long.

Dining for 6 people: A rectangular table of 72" to 84" in length or a round table 54" to 60" in diameter.

Dining for 8 people: A rectangular table of 84" to 96" in length, or a round table at least 72" in diameter.

Allow a minimum of 36" behind each chair for pulling back and rising from the table. The total floor area needed for an outdoor dining table is the table footprint plus at least 36" of clearance on all accessible sides.

Care and Seasonal Maintenance

An outdoor dining table left fully exposed to year-round weather requires more frequent maintenance than one used seasonally or stored under a fitted cover. A quality outdoor table cover sized precisely to the table protects the surface from UV fading, moisture pooling, and debris accumulation during the off-season. For teak, annual oiling before storage maintains the color and surface condition. For aluminum, an annual inspection for coating chips and a rinse with mild soap is sufficient. For concrete, confirm the sealant is intact each season and reapply as needed.
