What Is an Upholstered Full Bed?
An upholstered full bed, still commonly called a double bed, is a fabric-wrapped frame built for a 54" x 75" mattress. The headboard is padded with foam and covered in fabric over a wood or engineered-wood core, and on most designs in this collection the side rails are upholstered to match.
Full is the size people reach for when a twin is too narrow but a queen will not fit, and the upholstered version suits that use particularly well. A full bed frequently lives in a guest room or a teen bedroom where it doubles as seating, and a padded headboard is what makes leaning against it comfortable. The broader full beds collection covers wood, metal, platform and storage constructions in the same size.
What Are Full Bed Dimensions and Room Requirements?
A standard US full mattress is 54" x 75", which is 16" wider than a twin and 6" narrower and 5" shorter than a queen. The upholstered frames here add padding on top of that.

Most frames land in the 65" to 70" width band, roughly 11" to 16" wider than the mattress. A full bed needs a room of about 9' x 10' at minimum to leave 24" to 30" of clearance on both sides, and the 75" mattress length is worth flagging for anyone over 6' tall, since it is the same length as a twin. Pair with a full mattress between 8" and 12" thick so the headboard keeps its proportions.
Should You Buy a Full or a Queen Upholstered Bed?
This is the decision most shoppers in this collection are actually making, and it turns on room size and who sleeps in the bed.

A full gives 2 sleepers 27" each, which is less than a twin mattress per person, so it is not a comfortable long-term bed for a couple. It is an excellent bed for one adult who wants room to spread out, for a teenager who has outgrown a twin, and for a guest room that hosts one person at a time. Queen adds 6" of width and 5" of length, and that extra length matters more than most people expect for taller sleepers. If your room clears 10' x 12', the upholstered queen beds collection is the deeper assortment.
Which Fabrics and Colors Are Available in Full?
The full range covers four fabric builds, matching the twin and queen assortments closely.

Off-whites lead the color mix, followed by brown, then beige, gray and black, with navy and mint green as accent options. For a guest room, the off-white and beige options keep the room neutral for whoever is staying. For a teen room, brown and black hide wear better over several years. Every full bed here is classified contemporary. The upholstered beds hub shows the same fabric families across every size if you want to coordinate two rooms.
Who Should Buy an Upholstered Full Bed?
Three buyers dominate this size, and the reasoning is different in each case.
A teenager who has outgrown a twin is the most common. The 16" of added width is a meaningful upgrade at that age, and a full frame will carry them through to adulthood in a way a twin will not. A solo adult in a smaller bedroom is the second. If the room cannot take a queen at 10' x 12', a full gives one sleeper generous room without crowding the walkways. A guest room that hosts one visitor at a time is the third, where a full is more welcoming than a twin and takes less floor than a queen.
The case against a full is couples. At 27" per person it is tighter than most people realize, and the 75" length is short for anyone tall. For a growing teen who will be in this room for years, the youth beds range covers the transition sizes.
Do Upholstered Full Beds Need a Box Spring?
Base construction decides it. Platform-style full beds with a slat or solid deck carry the mattress on their own, and adding a box spring will push the mattress up over the headboard padding. Panel frames with rails only will need a foundation underneath.
The product page will tell you which you have. If it mentions a platform or slat system, skip the foundation. If it lists rails, budget for one. On profile, a low-profile foundation at roughly 5" to 6" preserves more of the padded headboard above the mattress line, which is worth choosing when the headboard height is in the 45" to 50" band. A standard profile at about 9" suits the taller 50" to 55" headboards. Sizes and heights are set out in the full foundations and box springs range.
How Do You Complete a Full Bedroom Setup?
A full bed at 55" to 70" wide sits in an awkward middle ground: too wide to treat like a twin, not wide enough to anchor a room like a queen. The furniture around it has to account for that.
Nightstands at 20" to 24" wide are the right scale. If the room only clears 24" on one side, put a single nightstand there and use a wall sconce on the other side rather than squeezing in a second table. At the foot, skip the bench unless the room is at least 11' long, since a full plus a bench eats the walkway fast. A 5' x 8' rug centered under the bed works if the frame sits against a wall, while an 8' x 10' is the better call for a bed floating in the room.
Storage is usually the real gap in a full bedroom, since the room is by definition on the smaller side. A vertical chest of drawers gives you the same capacity as a wide dresser without the wall length.
